Net stash used in 2013:  97.75

How are you doing on your destashing?

Chevrons is Finished!

2013-12-06 11.30.53

The snow made a nice backdrop for this quilt.  I seemed to plod along on it, but it was worth it.

50″ x 66″

Cotton prints, solids, and batiks.

Warm and white batting

Superior Bottom Line, Art Studio, and New Brites threads.

I try to do something more or different every time with my feathers.  These have a double spine and echoing.  That really gives them some definition.

Today we’re remembering Nelson Mandela, and the difference one person can make in the world.

Snow is falling rapidly here.  The schools are closed, so that makes this a Sew Day, doesn’t it?  Time to work on Christmas gifts.  What have you finished?

Sunday Stash Report: 12/1/13

image

I’m writing to you this morning from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.  I have been lame and not taken any new photos of this beautiful countryside, so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

I also didn’t photograph the new fabric I bought, but it was 4 yards of batik.  You’ll agree that’s necessary, won’t you?

A few Christmas gifts were purchased down here, but this pin is just for me, by local artist Sharon M. Hollar.  Yes, it’s my third pin of hers, but we’re not keeping track of jewelry here, are we?

This week:  +4 yards,  -0.5 yards
YTD:  +135 yards,  -231.75 yards
Net stash used in 2013:  96.75

Just wait till next week!

Getting it Done in November and December

I hope Judy does this again for next year.  I suppose I could make my own list, but somehow doing it with all of you makes it matter more, and I really am getting things done!

November Goals

1. Finish quilting my throw quilt from the Oh My Stars quiltalong.

2.  Finish piecing and quilting OMS throw for my shop,

3.  Finish piecing scrappy red, blue, gray cabin top (Quilt of Valor?)

4.  Piece aqua and gray chevron throw quilt for shop.

5.  Scrapitude Mystery Quilt, Step 3.

December Goals

1. Quilt for DS (Christmas)

2. Placemats (Christmas)

3. Pillowcases (Christmas)

I can’t add links to these because they’re not started yet.  The quilt is designed and I’ve pulled some scraps for it.  Hopefully you’ll see it soon.

How did you do with your goals?  Crazy busy time, if you got anything done you’re doing well!

Sunday Stash Report: 11/24/03

IMG_00000294_edit

Nothing in and nothing out this week.   I’m quilting the turquoise and gray chevrons, so that will be in next week’s report, I hope.

This week:  +0 yards,  -0 yards

YTD:  +131 yards,  -231.25 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -100.25 yards

So what’s Yuri so interested in, if it’s not the stash?  His boy is home from college, and was pulling in the driveway when I took this.  Sure made his ears perk up.

May you all spend this week with people who make you happy.

Pink and Green Cabins

IMG_1903

I finished this quilt and finally found a pleasant day for photographing it.

IMG_1906

It’s a big throw, 60″ x 82″.  I blogged more about making it here.

IMG_1909

I know fabric is fabric, and the last inch costs the same as the first, but somehow a quilt made entirely out of strings seems like a dividend.

IMG_1905

I quilted it with diagonal lines using the walking foot.  I used pink and green Superior “Living Colors” and “Nature’s Colors” threads.

IMG_1904

I’d love to see what you’ve finished.

WIP Wednesday: Triangles

wpid-8253389546_fdb631e427_o.jpg

2013-11-19 19.46.00

This week I’ve been playing with HSTs in grays and aqua through turquoise.  I’m trying to do something interesting with the color transition, but I don’t know if I have.   I sewed half of them together wrong, so I had to rip apart my nice, pressed open, unstretched blocks and sew them back together, probably all stretched out.

2013-11-19 19.46.15

So it’s coming.  Slowly.

Also, I completed Step 3 in the Scrapitude Mystery Quilt at Quilting for the Rest of Us.  Each of these steps is pretty quick, and we’re skipping December, so you could certainly catch up if you want to join us.

What are you working on?

Sunday Stash Report: 11/17/13 Communicating and Celebrating

100 yards

Before I celebrate this week’s good destashing.  I’d like to explain my poor communication here in Blogland.  I am, by spells, quiet and content to lurk on the sidelines, but lately I’m blaming my electronics for not getting back to you.  I know I’m lucky to own several hi tech devices, and I feel a little like the quilter who complained because she had no shoes until she met one who had no feet.

However, said devices have been in a state of mutiny lately.  Last month my newer tablet decided that it didn’t want to be an Android tablet anymore, but just wanted to read Nook books.  I really liked reading my Feedly feed on it (and commenting), and posting to this blog from it (and answering comments).  I’ve been using my old tablet that sometimes turns on and sometimes doesn’t.  And now, when I get to the end of one of your blog posts, and am all revved up to comment on it, it refuses to give me a keyboard.  The cursor is there. Just nothing to type on.  No matter what I do.

computers

And by the time I’m on my laptop I’ve forgotten where and on what I was so interested in commenting.  I have been visiting others when I join a linky party, but I’m doing a terrible job of getting back to my commenters.  After a month or so of having trouble accessing my email on the laptop, I finally deleted my account and set it all up again.  Then I was getting all my email, and thought I was sending some out, but turns out they were all stuck in my outbox.  Yesterday, I looked at the error message again, and noticed I had spelled “server” without an “r”.  I fixed that, and a month’s worth of emails and comment answers went spewing into cyberspace.  It was probably confusing to get an answer to something you said to me weeks ago.  Anyway, I have been reading and appreciating your posts, as well as your comments on mine.  I just haven’t been able to tell you.  I’ll keep trying.

Now, thanks to my Pink and Green Cabins quilt (which I will photograph when the wind and rain stop), I have reached 100 yards!

This week:  +0 yards,  -10.5 yards

YTD:  +131 yards,  -231.25 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -100.25 yards

WIP Wednesday: Pink and Green Strings

wpid-8253389546_fdb631e427_o.jpg

So far this week I haven’t worked on any of the goals on my list.  Instead, I’m off on a fun tangent with a new string quilt.  On Sunday I bargained with myself that if I would just do some long overdue paper work, I could dig into the basket of pink and green strings under my cutting table. These are the leftovers from about three different quilts, plus some other oddball salmon pinks I was glad to use up.  I divided the cabins by color, rather than value.  It seemed to work.  And, for once, it seemed to make a dent in the strings!  These are 12″ blocks.  I’m working on a theory that a smaller size, like 9″, is a more efficient use of strings, as well as a more convenient size the press, etc., but I might have to make another one to test that out…

IMG_00000274

I was just going to piece a few blocks.  So I pieced 35 wonky log cabins.  And then assembled them into a top. And now I’m quilting them.  Just seemed like the thing to do this week.

IMG_00000276

No fancy quilting on these busy blocks.  I’m quilting long lines on the diagonal with the walking foot and some beautiful thread.  If you push enough tables together, you can support any quilt!

What are you working on?

Sunday Stash Report: 11/10/13

Lots of sewing this week!  I finished the second Oh My Stars! quilt and allowed myself some string blocks (not completed into anything yet) just for fun.

IMG_00000260

My Oakshott fat eighth bundle arrived!  So gorgeous!  This was the prize I won from Fionna at Celtic Thistle Stitches in her Holiday Memories Mini Quilt Contest.  And I bought half a yard of Christmas fabric to bind my last quilt.  I know, you’d think something in the stash would have worked, but I swear nothing I had was right.  I have really done well using up Christmas fabric (and Christmas-y reds, I guess).

This week:  +2 yards,  -7.5 yards

YTD:  +131 yards,  -220.75 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -89.75 yards

Making my way towards 100 yards destashed in 2013!  How are you doing?
