This week I finished the third of these little quilts (the others are here and here). This is definitely my favorite. I know it’s just squares sewn together, but I really like each fabric and the quilting I did on them.
The solids are Kona Bluejay and Orange (from my stash), and the net print is Grafic from You + Me by Latifah Saafir for Hoffman. (Okay, it’s really chain link fence, but play along. Or it could be the fence around your outdoor court, all right?)
(I really like this fabric collection. I’d consider doing a project based on these fabrics.)
I started by quilting in all the ditches with the walking foot and Bottom Line (60 wt.) light blue thread. Then I switched to Masterpiece (50 wt.) in a deeper blue that matches the Bluejay. I quilted diagonally through at the blocks in both directions. I switched to the free motion foot to add circles to the “basketballs” and grids to the blue squares. The bottom thread is white Bottom Line.
With the diagonals already stitched, I was able to stitch the 1″ grids in each square without cutting the thread.
While waiting for Yuri to show up, I took a photo of my husband’s stream and pond. You can spot Yuri hurrying in behind the chairs on the right.
So, yes, this is as fun and snuggly as it looks.

…Yuri and I are hard at work on Sports Baby Quilt #3.
Here’s the next quilt made from my sports fabric scraps. I had ten different 2.5 inch wide strips (aka jelly roll strips). I used Missouri Star’s “Cutting Corners” tutorial, and the blocks made up very fast. The solid is Kona “Dusty Blue”.
I would definitely use this block/method again. I think it would be more effective with smaller prints or solids where you could see the stripes better. I’m putting this one in the donation bag.

The sun came out for a while yesterday, so Yuri and I raced out to take some quilt photos.
I had a variety of sports fabric scraps left from some baby quilts I’ve made as gifts and commissions. I planned to make one quilt, but it turned out I had enough for three.
Some of the fabrics were already cut in 6.5″ squares, and I wanted to keep the large prints visible, so I stuck with squares for this one. I found the blue ombre semi-solid that I think adds interest to the alternate squares.
Since this turned into three quilts, I had the opportunity to assembly-line them a little, making all the bindings and labels at once, basting two at the same time, etc.
And, yes, I had it checked for snuggliness. It passed!
Stay tuned for the next two soon.
Find this for sale in my Etsy Shop.
The Fates smiled on me as I finished this week’s baby quilt! (The black marker lines show how much I stretch the binding as I sew it on, so that I don’t have extra fullness when I sew it down on the front.)
Here’s a peek at it, but it’s way too dark and stormy here for good photos, so look for those in a day or two.
And no new fabric!

Creeping along! Have a great week!
This week I bought four yards of fabric, and I didn’t finish anything. However, I have three baby quilts in progress to use up a mess of sports print scraps. These backs, etc., will help with that. Don’t you love the chain-link fencing?

Look for some better destashing in the next few weeks!
Boy, May went quickly! But I kept my goals modest and achieved them all.
May Goals:
Wet weather and traveling have put us behind in our house and yard, so I don’t expect much quilting time this month, either.
June Goals:
I hope you enjoy whatever you’re woking on this June!
