Design Wall Monday

This week I used three yards of fabric for these donation blocks for Kat’s Covered in Love September/October block drive.
That’s not just the lighting, I used three different turquoise Konas I’ve had in my stash for a long time. These are trimmed down to 12″ square, so it used a lot.
This week: + 0 yards, – 3 yards
This year: + 88.5 yards, – 116.5 yards
Total destashed / added in 2020: 28 yards
Keep using your Stash, and Vote!
Yes, ten yards of fabric came in. As you see, it’s very necessary.
This week I finished the Bursting Rainbow, and this new Star Wars quilt.
This week: + 10 yards, – 6.5 yards
This year: + 88.5 yards, – 113.5 yards
Total destashed / added in 2020: 25 yards

I finished this slightly different quilt a few days ago.
I started this several weeks ago as a regular rainbow, but…it didn’t gather! I don’t have a picture, but it was not going to make it into a rainbow. I considered taking the strips apart and resewing it, but with 1.5″ strips of mostly Kona, I thought that would be a mess. More than once I considered wadding it up for the trash.
Finally, I cut it into wedges, and with some white strips, I paper pieced it to a newspaper pattern. Then I added facings to both edges, so that I could machine applique the rainbow to the background with a blind stitch. That worked well. I hadn’t been happy with satin stitching the raw edges that I did before.
I love the backing. It’s a piece of Cotton and Steel.
Yuri checked it out and approves.
Take care.
My thoughts go out to all of you friends in the fire and hurricane areas, and for any other trials you’re facing in this ridiculous and deadly year. So far we’re safe and well here.
This week I used 6.5 yards of fabric for the Blue Christmas quilt.
This week: + 0 yards, – 6.5 yards
This year: + 78.5 yards, – 107 yards

Keep sewing.
This week I finished this Christmas throw. It’s 49 x 62″.
These stars gave me a few fits. Is it the Tri-Rex (Recks?) rulers that I need for them? Whatever it is, I don’t have it.
Also, it was hard to coordinate the blues from my random selection of snowy fabrics. At first I used a dark dusty blue to frame the scenes. I really liked the fabric (and am sad it’s reduced to scraps), but it wasn’t right. The light blue I used instead actually has bits of lavender in it, but, strangely, it worked better.
It didn’t seem to matter how green or purple the blues were, but whether they glowed, like the scenes.
Yuri’s favorite part is the winter scene on the back.
This is in my Etsy shop.
It’s Labor Day weekend here in the US, so I hope you’re finding lots of time to sew or relax or catch up or…
This week I didn’t finish anything, and I bought one yard of fabric.
This week: + 1 yards, – 0 yards
This year: + 78.5 yards, – 100.5 yards
Total destashed / added in 2020: 22 yards
I’m making great progress quoting this Blue Christmas quilt.
