Beach Quilt Finish

This year’s beach quilt is…different.  I wanted to do something different from the framed squares I often do.

I had about a quarter yard left of most of the fabrics I wanted to use, and tried to make the most of them.  I wanted to make Disappearing Four Patches and do a color wash effect, but keep the patches large to show the prints.

I cut 8.5″ patches and sewed them into 16.5″ blocks. When I cut and resewed them to “disappear” them, they became 15.5″ blocks. (Why do all the tutorials say you will lose two inches?) Thus the finished quilt is about 45″ x 60″.

For the record, there is no way to make a color wash from a dozen giant 15″ blocks. I tried them every which way (and made and discarded a few spares), and finally settled on this. It’s pretty, but not exactly what I was going for.

Ah, well.

Sunday Stash Report: 4/18/2021

Here are two of the three new backing fabrics that came in this week. Extra points if you can guess which new tops these are for!

I have a finish! I quilted a new Beach Quilt that I’ll show more of soon.

  • This week: + 9 yards, – 6.5 yards
  • This year: +34.5 yards, – 50 yards
  • Net fabric destashed/added this year: 15.5 yards

Sunday Stash Report: 4/11/21

I think this is really last week’s Report, but it doesn’t matter. The weeks of sewing most days but never finishing anything are starting to run together. I did donate six yards again, so the totals stay the same.

  • This week: + 6 yards, – 6 yards
  • This year: +25.5 yards, -43.5 yards
  • Net fabric destashed/added this year: 18 yards

Close to being finished with several tops that are all Stash! Take care.
