Sunday Stash and October/November Goals

2017-10-01 11.49.39A finish!  A post about Layer Cake Explosion in a few days.

2017-09-25 13.52.40And… a large amount of fabric came in.  It’s for a commissioned quilt, and I wish I could say that it will all go out again soon, but there will be lots left over that I will need to put to use.  So.

This week:  +  16.5 yard,  – 12.5  yards

This year:  + 81.75 yards,  – 104.75 yards

Net destashed added in 2017:  13.00 yards

So, net destashing needs work, but I have used more than a hundred yards of fabric this year.

September Goals:

  1. Make back for Layer Cake Explosion.  Yes!  And I quilted it!  A post soon.
  2. Make donation blocks for Kat’s September/October block drive.  Yes, I made eighteen.
  3. Continue with Pacific Stars Mystery Quilt.   No, I skipped this.
  4. Customer quilt commission? (in the works)  Not made, but I spent the time discussing, ordering, and washing the fabrics.  Almost ready to sew.

I got on a roll after making the back for Layer Cake Explosion, and got it basted, quilted, and bound.  This was a huge project (93″ square), so I don’t mind that I put off Pacific Stars.  I’ll just be doing lots of work on that this month.

October Goals:

  1. Make last month’s Pacific Stars blocks.
  2. Make this month’s Pacific Stars blocks.
  3. Make commissioned flying geese quilt.
  4. Donate some quilts that are hanging around.

2017-09-01 18.17.07Good luck on all of your goals!  Right now I’m feeling fortunate to have food, water, and power, and I hope you do, too.

Sunday Stash and October/November Goals

2015-08-26 11.22.23 pm

Stash

Well, no fabric in, and I did complete a commissioned baby quilt (same as the one above, with purple accents for a girl), so the stash is creeping in the right direction.

This week:  + 0 yards,  – 3.5 yards
This year:  + 110.25 yards,  – 145.75 yards
Net fabric destashed  in 2015:  35.5 yards

Goals

October Goals

  1.  Piece and quilt Boxed Elephant baby quilt commission.  Yes!  Here it is.
  2. Quilt and bind Gold and Turquoise quilt.  Yes!  Turned out great.
  3. Piece top from Twilter Hashtag blocks.  No, I was confused about this, and we won’t even get our blocks until this month.  Instead I started the Droid Quilt Along on The Stitch TV Show.  Have I kept up with it?  No.  But the back is made!
  4. Make new baby quilt with elephant scraps.  No, there were no useful scraps from this.  But I’m almost finished with a baby quilt made from the scraps from my Droid quilt backing.  And I did that new Star Wars commission baby quilt.

As you see there are a couple of “no, but”s in there, but I’m mostly pleased with what I accomplished.  Just have to get on that Droid quilt.

November Goals

  1. Piece the top from the Hashtag blocks when they arrive.
  2. Bind the scrappy Star Wars baby quilt.
  3. Catch up on the Droid Quilt Along.
  4. Make scrappy Maple Leaf blocks for Kat’s November Block Drive.

I notice there are no Christmas projects in there.  I may not make many homemade gifts, but I have a few vague ideas, so we’ll see.  There’s still loads of time, right?

Hope you’re progressing on all of your stuff!  I’m linking up to Judy’s report at Patchwork Times.

Sunday Stash Report and May/June Goals

2015-05-27 16.00.39b

Stash

Nothing in, nothing out this week, but that should change next week, as I finish this Scrap-in-a-Box quilt.

This week:  + 0 yards,  – 0 yards
This year:  + 57.5 yards,  – 81.25 yards
Net fabric destashed  in 2015:  23.75 yards

Goals

I did well on my goals this month.  Some quilters are doing theirs weekly.  I can see where this could work well, especially if you have a busy, structured work week, and this helps you accomplish some specific tasks.  In my retired (and DH retired) state, my days and weeks are more free-form and less predictable.  Some weeks I get lots of sewing time and really burn through projects.  Others seem to hold nothing but family gatherings, outings, trips, etc., and I get little done.  And I’m trying to be okay with that.  So the monthly goals give me more flexibility, but still some focus.

May Goals

1.  Audit Jinny Beyer BOM Craftsy Class.  Yes, all caught up.  I’ve lost interest in piecing any, though.

2.   Complete the top for  Charlotte’s Scrap in a Box Mystery Quilt.   Yes, on this post.  Now I’m quilting it.

3.  Assemble and quilt the pink and gray scrappy log cabin quilt.  Yes! See it here.

4.  Design and piece a beach-themed throw-size quilt.  Yes, and quilted.  It’s here.

June Goals

1.   Audit Jinny Beyer BOM Craftsy Class.

2.   Quilt and bind  Charlotte’s Scrap in a Box Mystery Quilt.

3.   Attempt a photo transfer technique for a Coastal wall hanging.

4.  Assemble quilt blue and gold leaders and enders units into a top.

2015-05-31 15.11.48

How are you doing on your goals?  Happy June to you tomorrow!

Sunday Stash Report: 1/11/15

Cold, cold, cold its been here!  I have done lots of sewing, but the only finish is this elephant baby quilt, 2.75 yards.

My eQuilter order arrived with 15.5 yards, so the numbers will be lopsided for a while.  But it is beautiful fabric (and I’ve already used some of the elephants).

This week:  +15.5 yards,  -2.75 yards
This year:  +15.5 yards,  -6.25 yards
Net fabric destashed added in 2015:  9.25 yards

Keep warm and keep sewing!  I’m linking up to Sunday Stash Report at Patchwork Times.

Sunday Stash Report 10/12/14

This week I used 8.5 yards from stash for the Christmas Plaid quilt.  Also, 18 yards of batiks arrived from Hancocks of Paducah, but I’m not sorry.  At $3.99/yd, these will make some gorgeous backs.  A minor setback for the numbers.

This week: +18 yards, -8.5 yards
YTD: +113.25 yards, -170.25 yards
Net stash used 2014: -57.00 yards

Still two and a half months to go!  Lots of time to use more!
Have a good week!

Sunday Stash Report: 7/20/14

Nothing in this week and nothing out.  I guess you have to spend time in the studio to actually use some fabric, and I haven’t been up there much lately, in spite of the cool weather.  On the other hand, I didn’t bring any fabric back from vacation (I hardly saw any quilt shops, but I suppose there were some), so it works out.

This week: +0 yards, -0 yards
YTD: +73.75 yards, -134 yards
Net stash used 2014: -60.25 yards

Hope you’re sewing, if you wish, or enjoying your summer in some other way.

Sunday Stash Report: 5/18/14

This report comes from the road as we leave Williamsburg, VA, and head for home after four nights away.  The Marshall University John Marshall Fife and Drum Corps was invited to the Drummers’ Call at Colonial Williamsburg in celebration of Armed Forces Day, and our son was proud to march.  He probably heard his first fife music here as a small boy, and now he’s playing in the streets of this special place.  There were 14 corps from the US and Canada, quite spectacular.  My husband’s parents were also able to attend.

With traveling there’s been little sewing, so the stash is the same.

This week: +0 yards, -0 yards
YTD: +64.75 yards, -101.5 yards
Net stash used 2014: -35.75 yards

Hope you’ve had a good week.

Sunday Stash Report: 3/2/14

Good morning from snowy Ohio!  It is beautiful watching the falling snow and the cardinals, etc., at the feeder.  Probably won’t be going anywhere for a day or so, but that’s more sewing time, right?

Good numbers this week!  I finished the Scrapitude quilt (pictures later. I hurried and took some before Snowpocalypse decended again!)  I especially like this finish because the top is made entirely from scraps and oddball background fabric out of the stash.  I did buy the backing, some weeks ago.

This week:  +0 yards,  -10.5 yards
YTD:  +30.25 yards,  -53 yards
Net stash used 2014:  -22.75

Hoping you are staying warm, sewing a lot, and using your stash.

Getting It Done in 2013

image

2013 sounds like such a funny, futuristic date to me.  I’m sure we will be used to it soon enough.  I first heard of this year back in 1983 when DH and I took out a thirty year mortgage to buy our first house.  The pay-off date sounded like such a ridiculous, sci-fi kind of thing, in the next century, for heaven’s sake.  Of course, we long ago paid off that mortgage, and bought this place, and paid it off, too, so 2013 no longer holds any real estate significance to us.  We shall have to see what the year brings.

For quilting motivation in 2013, I am going to try Judy’s “Getting It Done”.  This involves listing quilty goals for the coming month, and they can include new projects or portions of them, as well as UFOs.  (Tanesha at Crafty Garden Mom is doing a UFO Along that sounds fun.  I have  very few quilt UFOs , but I might join in later if I ever pick up my knitting needles again.)  On the one hand, I don’t want to be overly focused on productivity, but I also know that I tend to get nothing done if I don’t set goals, so I think I will try this.

GOALS FOR JANUARY

1.  Construct Quilt of Valor top during New Year’s Day Sit and Sew (also #NDSI on Twitter).
2.  Quilt/finish said QOV quilt.
3.  Create and post tutorial about binding a quilt with blanket binding
4.  Create a fun, new quilt of my choice using stash fabric, inspired by playing with said fabric.

DESTASHING GOALS

I feel like my 100 yd destashing goal of last year worked out really well, so I’m going with 100 more yards for this year.  It’s a significant amount, but not so high that it won’t permit me to buy some new fabric when I want to.  Thank you to the readers who assured me that I am allowed to buy fabric, since I’ve been so good, and that quilting is about having fun.  I know, and I really do have fun with it.  I also think that I would find it fun to be able to open the basket drawers where I keep my fabric, instead of them being all stuffed to the gills.  My DS heard that I was down over a hundred yards, and he ran up to my studio to see if he could tell the difference, but he couldn’t. Yeah.  So there must be a lot more hundreds up there.  I don’t want to know, but I do want to keep destashing.  100 yds. in 2013.

So those are my modest goals for the new year.  I look forward to reading about yours and watching your progress.  Good luck to us all!
