IMG_00000437

Sending you some bright blocks to brighten your days.  Many of us here in the US are overwhelmed by snow and cold.  We must fight back by sewing!

A very positive stash report this week, but I will confess that there’s a fabric order on the way…

This week:  +0 yards,  -10 yards (pillowcases for donation)

This year:  +0 yards,  -10 yards

Net stash used this years:  -10 yards

Keep warm!

Sunday Stash Report: the last one for 2013

Absolutely no sewing this week because we were in Washington, DC and Annapolis, MD, to attend the Military Bowl, where my son’s college, Marshall University, was competing (and won!), and where my son was marching and playing trumpet in the Marching Thunder band.

Here are the final numbers for the year:

This week:  +0 yards,  -0 yards
YTD:  +145 yards,  -259.75 yards
Net stash used in 2013:  114.75

I’m very happy to have made my 100 yard goal, while still enjoying acquiring some fabric.  It feels good to lighten the stash for the new year.

Lots of walking around Washington.  The weather was very cold, but sunny.  It was interesting to see the city decorated for Christmas, and at some times nearly deserted because of the holiday.  I did get in one quilty visit.  “Workt by Hand” is worth seeing at the National Museum for Women in the Arts.  No photos were allowed, so it’s hard to remember everything, but they were beautifully preserved and visually dramatic quilts.  Some Amish, lots of crazy quilts, at least one hexi, lots of broderie perse, lone stars, and many more.  One idea I came away with was the use of a boldly patterned fabric for sashing.

The people of Annapolis were very warm and welcoming, and enjoyed the parade through the beautifully decorated town as much as we did.  It was very moving to see the skydivers, the flyover, and the Medal of Honor winners at the game.

Crab

Some crab was consumed during our visit!

I hope you had a good holiday, and that your stash and quiltmaking are flourishing.

This week on Twitter, we’re finishing up projects and organizing our lives and our studios to get ready for the new year.  It’s the Year End Sew In,  #YESI  !  If you’re looking for me, I’m @Scooquilt .

Sunday Stash Report: 12/22/13

IMG_00000348

We’ve been doing a lot of this here, what with lots of snow and Christmas movies and Chex Mix, but there’s been some sewing, too.

IMG_00000351

This week:  +0 yards,  -8 yards
YTD:  +145 yards,  -259.75 yards
Net stash used in 2013:  114.75

I’m pleased with that.  My projects are all finished and wrapped, so no last minute panic.  I hope you are finished, or at least enjoying your work.

Nothing in and nothing out this week.   I’m quilting the turquoise and gray chevrons, so that will be in next week’s report, I hope.

This week:  +0 yards,  -0 yards

YTD:  +131 yards,  -231.25 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -100.25 yards

So what’s Yuri so interested in, if it’s not the stash?  His boy is home from college, and was pulling in the driveway when I took this.  Sure made his ears perk up.

May you all spend this week with people who make you happy.

Sunday Stash Report: 11/17/13 Communicating and Celebrating

100 yards

Before I celebrate this week’s good destashing.  I’d like to explain my poor communication here in Blogland.  I am, by spells, quiet and content to lurk on the sidelines, but lately I’m blaming my electronics for not getting back to you.  I know I’m lucky to own several hi tech devices, and I feel a little like the quilter who complained because she had no shoes until she met one who had no feet.

However, said devices have been in a state of mutiny lately.  Last month my newer tablet decided that it didn’t want to be an Android tablet anymore, but just wanted to read Nook books.  I really liked reading my Feedly feed on it (and commenting), and posting to this blog from it (and answering comments).  I’ve been using my old tablet that sometimes turns on and sometimes doesn’t.  And now, when I get to the end of one of your blog posts, and am all revved up to comment on it, it refuses to give me a keyboard.  The cursor is there. Just nothing to type on.  No matter what I do.

computers

And by the time I’m on my laptop I’ve forgotten where and on what I was so interested in commenting.  I have been visiting others when I join a linky party, but I’m doing a terrible job of getting back to my commenters.  After a month or so of having trouble accessing my email on the laptop, I finally deleted my account and set it all up again.  Then I was getting all my email, and thought I was sending some out, but turns out they were all stuck in my outbox.  Yesterday, I looked at the error message again, and noticed I had spelled “server” without an “r”.  I fixed that, and a month’s worth of emails and comment answers went spewing into cyberspace.  It was probably confusing to get an answer to something you said to me weeks ago.  Anyway, I have been reading and appreciating your posts, as well as your comments on mine.  I just haven’t been able to tell you.  I’ll keep trying.

Now, thanks to my Pink and Green Cabins quilt (which I will photograph when the wind and rain stop), I have reached 100 yards!

This week:  +0 yards,  -10.5 yards

YTD:  +131 yards,  -231.25 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -100.25 yards

Sunday Stash Report: 11/10/13

Lots of sewing this week!  I finished the second Oh My Stars! quilt and allowed myself some string blocks (not completed into anything yet) just for fun.

IMG_00000260

My Oakshott fat eighth bundle arrived!  So gorgeous!  This was the prize I won from Fionna at Celtic Thistle Stitches in her Holiday Memories Mini Quilt Contest.  And I bought half a yard of Christmas fabric to bind my last quilt.  I know, you’d think something in the stash would have worked, but I swear nothing I had was right.  I have really done well using up Christmas fabric (and Christmas-y reds, I guess).

This week:  +2 yards,  -7.5 yards

YTD:  +131 yards,  -220.75 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -89.75 yards

Making my way towards 100 yards destashed in 2013!  How are you doing?

Sunday Stash Report: Making a little progress

IMG_00000216

Six yards of fabric came in this week, but more went out, so I am inching along.  Some of it is already spoken for, needed to finish the second Oh My Stars quilt.

IMG_00000230

I used .75 yard for the Bread Head sign, and 7.5 yards for the Oh My Stars throw quilt that I plan to keep.  I have to, because Krissi loves it.  It’s finished and in the wash now, so pictures soon.

This week:  +6 yards,  -8.25 yards

YTD:  +129 yards,  -213.25 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -84.75 yards

I have two months to make my goal of 100 yards.  How are you doing on your destashing?

Lots of little sewing, not too much fabric used, but none came in, so I’m edging toward my goal of 100 yards destashing.  The holiday wall hangings took 2.5 yards.  Working on using up really old Christmas stash.

Just a little fabric in this week, just barely offset by what I used, but it was in the right direction and the math was easy.  I needed some fabrics for my landscape quilt, and the two on top were very much on sale.  And sprinkled with gold metallic spots.  Obviously, I had to buy them.

AND, I’ve embarked on a great destashing project:  the Scrapitude Mystery Quilt at Quilting for the Rest of Us.  There’s a Flickr group, and it’s being heavily discussed/shown on Twitter, #scrapitude.  It’s just starting, so join us.

This week:  +3.5 yards,  -4.5 yards (wall hangings)

YTD:  +123 yards,  -184.75 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -61.75 yards

Instead of Yuri, whose main accomplishments are catching chipmunks to release in the house, and getting in the way of quilt photographs, I thought I’d show you my son today.  He is accomplished at many things, including playing trumpet in the Marching Thunder band at Marshall University, Huntington, WV, where he is a sophomore.  Yes, We Are Marshall, the movie.  They march about 300 instruments.
