Finished Beach Wall Hanging

Now that the sleeve is sewn on the back, this wall hanging is complete. It’s made all from scraps and materials on hand.

I arranged the threads on the blue areas, covered the blocks with tulle, and quilted over them. As I went I added tiny beads and trapped them in the quilted swirls.

When the quilting was finished, I used the rest of the roll of tulle (from a long-ago bargain bin) to swirls across and sewed it down.

It’s hard to photograph, but there’s lots of glitter and shine.

Some favorite scraps!

Thanks for stopping!

Friday Finish: Christmas in July

This is the finished Christmas version of Scrappy 4 Patch Stars, Charlotte Hawkes’ 2021 mystery quilt. It finished at 63″ square. I was inspired to do this version after seeing one by Lorraine on the Facebook group.

I quilted it all over with Superior’s Magnifico, 40 wt., shiny poly thread.

Yuri wants to know, what are you quilting lately?

Enjoy your Sunday! I hope you’re getting some time to sew your stash.

Another Baby Finish

I made this quilt using some “Remix” lollies fabric by Jen Kingwell for Moda.

I know this isn’t the way most people use a lollie, but I wanted to include the black and white dividing lines and to make the colors very random. The randomness didn’t really work out- there’s a lot of gold in this! I’ll cut it differently when I use the rest.

This is in my Etsy shop.

Blue Christmas Finish

This week I finished this Christmas throw. It’s 49 x 62″.

These stars gave me a few fits. Is it the Tri-Rex (Recks?) rulers that I need for them? Whatever it is, I don’t have it.

Also, it was hard to coordinate the blues from my random selection of snowy fabrics. At first I used a dark dusty blue to frame the scenes. I really liked the fabric (and am sad it’s reduced to scraps), but it wasn’t right. The light blue I used instead actually has bits of lavender in it, but, strangely, it worked better.

It didn’t seem to matter how green or purple the blues were, but whether they glowed, like the scenes.

Yuri’s favorite part is the winter scene on the back.

Friday Finish: Wild Animals

2020-08-07 12.58.13 (1)

Yes, they are all watching you!  Isn’t this a great panel?  I framed each animal up with some nubbins of fabrics, and then used the rest to make a scrappy binding.  All gone!

We debated some other background fabrics, but I felt like our choice was too busy, so I chose this subtle (boring?) light fabric, and I had just enough.

The owl fabric on the back was purchased for another project and never used, so here it is.  Yes, gold highlights.

Sunday Stash Report, and Rainbow #3

2020-07-19 13.57.46 (1)Here’s that finished Rainbow quilt, made from WoF strips appliqued to the background.  The rainbow wanted to be round, so it is.  I’m sure I’ll make another version of this.  The rainbow is textured from the stretching, but in a nice way.

This week: + 0 yards, – 3.25 yards

Sunday Stash Report and One More SW Finish

This is the last one, at least for a while! This quilt and the last one used 6.5 yards of fabric, and I didn’t buy any new!

This week: + 0 yards, – 6.5 yards

This year: + 53 yards, – 77 yards

Total destashed / added in 2020: 24 yards

I couldn’t resist this bright colored R2-D2 fabric, so I used those colors to make a much happier version on the theme. These colors were fun to use, and included lots of older fabric.

See more photos in my Etsy shop.

Using the stash!

Another Star Wars Baby Quilt

2020-05-13 08.19.44 (1)

I love the fabrics in this quilt so much!  That starry sky/space!  This was really fun to sew.  (My only complaint is that that Robert Kauffman space fabric is only 40″ wide.  I don’t like this trend.)

2020-05-13 08.15.13 (1)

The star panel was the only part that used “old” stash, but every bit of it came from my 3.5″ scrap bin, and the colors are wonderful.  I’m using this idea on one of the next ones.

2020-05-13 08.16.59 (1)

I quilted it with vertical lines, ranging from a half to one and a half inches apart.  The thread is Superior’s Rainbows in Lilac Bouquet (40 wt.).  It’s very light compared to the dark fabrics, and I had some misgivings as I quilted it, but I like it now.  I think it lightens the dark strip a bit and lends some movement to the stars.

Lots of Roses- Finished

I made this top earlier, so I just had to quilt and bind it.

I’ve had this fabric for a looong time, so I’m finally using it (there’s more left!). I didn’t want cut it, so I just sliced it and inserted the chevrons.

I quilted it with zig zags all over.

This is in my Etsy shop.
