Evening in the Garden Quilts

Adventures in Fabric Art

Sunday Stash Report: 1/3/16

Wow, first Stash Report of the year!  Look at this nice, positive, destashing number long and hard because you won’t see it again for a while!  Massive amounts of fabric have been ordered and arrive this week, wrecking havoc with the stats.

So far in 2016, I’ve used two yards to make these dozen 12.5″ donation blocks that Alycia is collecting for Quilts of Valor.  It’s a fun and easy way to use your 2.5″ strips.

This week: +0 yards, -2 yards
This year: +0 yards, -2 yards
Net destashed in 2016: 2 yards

I’m going for fifty yards out of the Stash again this year, but I’ll have to be patient as I crawl back out of the hole I’ve dug bought myself. I believe!

Donation Finishes

Today I mailed off two packages of donation sewing.  I had so much fun making these flag blocks that I didn’t want to stop (I made 32!)  I warn you, they are addictive.  Here is Alycia’s post.

I also said goodbye to the Tulip Quilt.  I said at the time that I didn’t want any more disasters, but these things keep happening.  I sent this to Colorado to warm a flood survivor.  Here is Luana’s post.

Now my studio is cleared out a bit and I have no more excuses not to work on Oh My Stars.  I haven’t had a lot of help with the Christmas carols, though.  Most people seem to be like me, and want to leave the red and green till December.  “It hasn’t snowed a single flurry, but Santa, dear, we’re in a hurry…”.

WIP Wednesday: Lots a Blocks

This week I straightened up my studio from the last few projects.  Then I decided to take a crack at neatening up this.

I made these 16 block to send off to Quilts of Valor, and I have 16 more in progress.  Great way to use up scraps, and they’re even having a contest!

Also, I dug out my Oh, My Stars blocks from two years ago.  I need to look up the directions and perhaps rethink where I want to go with them.  Someone please hum some Christmas carols, because I’m just not feeling these right now.

I hope you’re playing with fabric.

Design Wall Monday: QOV

I have 35 blocks ready for today’s MLK Day Sew In (#mlkdsi on Twitter). Please join us! It’s nice to have company sewing. Company for whom you don’t have to dress up or clean up!

I’m auditioning this border fabric, which I really want to use. However, it’s looking awfully busy, and the sides have to be pieced with the blue because I don’t have enough of the mountains. I will stare at it as I put the field of blocks together this morning. Don’t be surprised if this has different borders next time you see it.

Hope you’re able to sew today.
