Sunday Stash Report: 10/6/13

This is the boring kind of stash report:  nothing in and nothing out.  I’ve been pretty sick with a cold and sore throat (I blame my DS who brought it home from college), and I’ve been working on the garden and the house.  I did some paper piecing for Christmas wall hangings, but nothing is finished yet.  Ah, well.

This week:  +0 yards,  -0 yards

YTD:  +123 yards,  -197.50 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -74.50 yards

I will get to 100 yds!

Since my garden is more interesting than my sewing this week, here is some of the bounty:

Hope you are eating well and destashing this week.

Yes, a bit of new fabric, but it’s necessary!  The solids are Kona Water, Kumquat, Candy, and Bluejay.

And, of course, I finished the Coffee Quilt, so that more than offset the purchases.

This week:  +5 yards, -7.5 yards
YTD:  +119.5, -180.25
Net stash used in 2013:  -60.75

I think I’ll get to my 100 yards destashed goal by the end of the year, don’t you?  How are you doing?

Thank you to everyone who left such nice comments on my Blogiversary post yesterday!  It was great to hear from you all.

I’ve been working at getting back to the sewing this week, making six more of the Card Trick blocks each day that I could get to the machine.  All twenty-four for the center of the Coffee Quilt are finished, but I still need to assemble them and add the borders.

The only fabric that went out this week is 1.75 yards I used for these bandanas for firefighters in Idaho.  Thank you, Jaye, for passing along this link.

This week:  +0 yards,  -1.75 yards
YTD:  +114.5 yards,  -172.75 yards
Net stash used in 2013:  -58.25 yards

How are doing with your destashing?  As we pass Labor Day, I know things will settle down and we’ll start to see some progress!

No fabric came in, and none went out this week.  I finished and arranged the log cabin blocks, ready to sew into a top, and I made decisions and sewed the first six blocks (of twenty-four) for the Coffee Quilt, so there should be some finishes late next month when I return from vacation and retrieve my machine from the “spa” where it’s being cleaned and adjusted.  Now, if I can limit the fabric purchases during the trip, all should be well!

This week:  +0 yards,  -0 yards
YTD:  +111.75 yards,  -171 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -59.25 yards

I wanted to show you the wonderful vintage lamp I bought last month.  I bought it locally as my friend was closing her shop in town, but you can see more of her great finds in her Etsy shop, Finders Keepers.  This beauty has a very heavy base that no quilt will ever nudge off the table (as they do my plastic Ott Lite).  The first extension is 22″ tall, and the second arm comes out another 12″.  It turns and swivels and pours light anywhere in my studio.  I’m happy.

Good luck on your destashing. Whatever you sew will be more than I will these next four weeks!

Greetings from Amish country!  There’s been no sewing at all this week as I’ve been traveling along the Jersey shore and attending a family reunion that we held in Lancaster, PA.  Of course, Lancaster also means fabric shopping. I didn’t go around much, because we all know that I don’t need more fabric, but the prices are very good, especially here at Zook’s.

This week:  +14.25 yards,  -0 yards
YTD:  +111.75 yards,  -171 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -59.25 yards

Better luck to you on destashing!

I’ll leave you with a photo of a glass iron, made during WWII when metal was in short supply.  I don’t know how well it worked, but it sure is beautiful! I saw it at the Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center at Mill ville, NJ.

No new fabric this week, and I used 7.5 yards for the Beach Quilt.

This week:  +0 yards,  -7.5 yards
YTD:  +97.5 yards,  -171 yards
Net stash used in 2013:  -73.5 yards

Good thing I’m doing well, because I won’t be doing any sewing this week.  I’ll just try not to do too much damage in fabric stores.

Good luck on your destashing!

Happy Father’s Day!  I did skip last week’s report, because I hadn’t added any fabric or used any (I don’t count till I have a finish.)  Also, I am dismally behind on all of your blogs and podcasts, so that would be why you aren’t receiving any comments or encouragement from me.  I’m with you all in spirit!

This was a good week, because the Tulip Quilt used 10.5 yards, and I used 2 more for a pair of pillowcases.  All that tulip fabric is very nearly gone, but there are strings… Hmm.  Log cabin?  Sometimes it seems as though we never use it all up.

This week:  +0 yards,  -12.5 yards

YTD:  =83.5 yards,  -157 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -72.5 yards

How are you coming with your stash reduction?

I have a new project coming up as I will soon receive a package of baby clothes to use in a commission quilt and pillow cover.  Do any of you have any experience doing a quilt like this?  Know any links to nice memory projects like this?  The client and I have communicated about the design, but I’d like to see lots of ideas.

Sunday Stash Report: A little out, a little in. 6/2/13

It’s been a busy, hot week, and I didn’t sew as much as I would have liked.  I need to make sure I get up early and not linger over the coffee and tablet.  Our woods are deceptively cool, but by noon my upstairs studio is usually too hot for sewing in this weather.  We’ve also been away a fair amount.   This week I used 6 1/2 yards for the Orange and Gray String Quilt.  I’ll blog about it soon.

Some fabric was purchased.  10 1/2 yards.  but isn’t it pretty?  Those are little gray flying geese on the white one!  I passed by The Fabric Shack twice in the last two weeks, but I couldn’t look the other way the third time.  The geese were on sale…  Aaa, I have the rest of the year to make it to -100 yards!

This week:  +10.5 yards,  -6.5 yards

YTD:  +83.5 yards,  -144.4 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -61 yards

Well, yes, that is new fabric.  22 1/5 yards from eQuilter.  I suppose it doesn’t reduce the yardage that most of it was on sale, does it?  But it’s great stuff, and some of it is earmarked for a Christmas gift project.  I did use 7 1/2 yards to finish the Blue and Orange donation quilt.

This week:  +22.5 yards,  -7.5 yards

YTD:  +73 yards,  -138 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  65 yards

How are you doing with your stash reduction?  Sometimes you have to buy some to use some…

Lots of fabric pulled out, piled up, and all over the design wall, but only one small finish this week.  That’s okay.  My numbers are good.  I’m especially pleased to be finding uses for some long-time Stash Dogs.  Those “what was I thinking?” pieces, or fabrics that are pretty/striking/interesting by themselves, but don’t go with anything else.  Or that looked different online.  Making some progress on those.  I find that if I leave them out, or at least at the top of their baskets, then they are more likely to occur to me when I need something.

How about you?  Are you using it up to make way for new, pretty fabric?
