Sunday Stash Report: 6/16/13

Urbana-20130303-00687

Happy Father’s Day!  I did skip last week’s report, because I hadn’t added any fabric or used any (I don’t count till I have a finish.)  Also, I am dismally behind on all of your blogs and podcasts, so that would be why you aren’t receiving any comments or encouragement from me.  I’m with you all in spirit!

This was a good week, because the Tulip Quilt used 10.5 yards, and I used 2 more for a pair of pillowcases.  All that tulip fabric is very nearly gone, but there are strings… Hmm.  Log cabin?  Sometimes it seems as though we never use it all up.

This week:  +0 yards,  -12.5 yards

YTD:  =83.5 yards,  -157 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -72.5 yards

How are you coming with your stash reduction?

I have a new project coming up as I will soon receive a package of baby clothes to use in a commission quilt and pillow cover.  Do any of you have any experience doing a quilt like this?  Know any links to nice memory projects like this?  The client and I have communicated about the design, but I’d like to see lots of ideas.

Sunday Stash Report: A little out, a little in. 6/2/13

It’s been a busy, hot week, and I didn’t sew as much as I would have liked.  I need to make sure I get up early and not linger over the coffee and tablet.  Our woods are deceptively cool, but by noon my upstairs studio is usually too hot for sewing in this weather.  We’ve also been away a fair amount.   This week I used 6 1/2 yards for the Orange and Gray String Quilt.  I’ll blog about it soon.

Some fabric was purchased.  10 1/2 yards.  but isn’t it pretty?  Those are little gray flying geese on the white one!  I passed by The Fabric Shack twice in the last two weeks, but I couldn’t look the other way the third time.  The geese were on sale…  Aaa, I have the rest of the year to make it to -100 yards!

This week:  +10.5 yards,  -6.5 yards

YTD:  +83.5 yards,  -144.4 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -61 yards

How are you doing with your destashing?

Well, yes, that is new fabric.  22 1/5 yards from eQuilter.  I suppose it doesn’t reduce the yardage that most of it was on sale, does it?  But it’s great stuff, and some of it is earmarked for a Christmas gift project.  I did use 7 1/2 yards to finish the Blue and Orange donation quilt.

This week:  +22.5 yards,  -7.5 yards

YTD:  +73 yards,  -138 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  65 yards

How are you doing with your stash reduction?  Sometimes you have to buy some to use some…

Sunday Stash Report 5/12/13

2013-03-11 21.23.22

I only used half a yard this week on the Project Hope art quilt, but I didn’t buy any fabric, either, so it’s good.  I have a couple of tops made, so any time now those used numbers will explode…

This Week:  +0 yards,  – .5 yards

YTD:  =50.50 yards,  – 124 yards

Net Stash Used in 2013:  -73.5 yards

Now that you know that I can afford to buy fabric, here is some I’m drooling over, at Red Pepper Quilts, called Collage. I wouldn’t make this quilt, but I’m thinking. I really might need this.

How is your destashing going?

Lots of fabric pulled out, piled up, and all over the design wall, but only one small finish this week.  That’s okay.  My numbers are good.  I’m especially pleased to be finding uses for some long-time Stash Dogs.  Those “what was I thinking?” pieces, or fabrics that are pretty/striking/interesting by themselves, but don’t go with anything else.  Or that looked different online.  Making some progress on those.  I find that if I leave them out, or at least at the top of their baskets, then they are more likely to occur to me when I need something.

This week:  +0 yards,  -3.5 yards

YTD:  +50.5 yards,  -123.5 yards

Net Stash Used in 2013:  -73 yards

How about you?  Are you using it up to make way for new, pretty fabric?

Yes!  Finishing a queen size quilt will really take it out of the old stash!  To the tune of 19 yards!  If you haven’t seen Nicey Jane, here she is.

This week:  +0 yards,  -19 yards
YTD:  +50.5 yards,   -120 yards
Net stash used in 2013:  -69.5 yards!

How are you doing with your destashing?  Keep plugging, the year is young!

Well, it was all buy this week and no use.  I was feeling a distinct lack of solids and neutrals, and my DH and I found the perfect day to make a trip to The Fabric Shack.  I know that those of you around the world who buy from them because of their low-cost shipping are jealous that I am close enough (forty-five minutes) to visit there.  It is a great store to visit.  The stuff just goes on and on.  However, they have more in their online store than they can fit in the brick and mortar place.  Kona solids, for instance, are never completely represented when I go there.  Their warehouse is in town, and if they’re not busy (ha!), and you can wait long enough, they might bring over the bolt you need, but sometimes it is just easier to order.  Still, we had a very pleasant spring trip, and I found the floral on a good sale.

I’ve been sewing all week (when I wasn’t fabric shopping), but I only succeeded in quilting half of my queen sized Nicey Jane quilt, so nothing to count as used.  Maybe next week?

If you like numbers, notice that I’ve used exactly twice as much as I’ve purchased this year.  So if I buy another hundred yards… No, I guess not.  As you can see, my stash is already out of hand.

This week:  +12.75 yards,  -0 yards

YTD:  +50.5 yards, -101 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  50.5 yards

Sunday Stash Report and March-a-Long 3/31/13

image

Happy Easter! And hopefully happy spring.

Yuri is sad because there wasn’t much production this week. I used one yard on the failed wall hangings. Then one back-ordered yard of fabric came in the mail. Pretty much a wash.

This week:  +1 yard,  -1 yard

YTD:  +36.75 yards,  -91.5 yards

Net stash used in 2013:  -54.75 yards

How goes your destashing?

March-a-Long

I started the week strong by finishing the top to my bed quilt. Then I started wall hangings that didn’t work out, so I started some more. Then beginning Wednesday evening I started getting nightly severe headaches/migraines. I don’t know what they are, but I don’t want them. When I haven’t been hurting I’ve been exhausted. So I have neglected the sewing machine, but have tried to keep up on blogs, etc. Sargent Darla knows I’ve been on sick call, spoiling a pretty good month. Still, it was a good use for a cold and weathery month. Congratulations to all who Marched Along.
